Alive Learning Forum #003: How to Set Up a Living Evidence Partnership

On the 23rd of April 2025, The Alive Learning Forum convened for a presentation of 'How to Set Up a Living Evidence Partnership' by Alive’s Head of Partnerships, Dr. Mikey Rosato, and Clinical diabetologist and endocrinologist at West China Hospital, Dr. Sheyu Li, hosted by Learning Forum Co-chair, Dr. Racha Fadlallah.

Developing learning evidence partnerships
Dr. Rosato demonstrated the process of organising partnerships, supporting individuals with shared interests to collaborate in structured collective groups. Additionally, he explained how Alive establishes three structures to help organise partnerships. The first structure is the Steering group, which encompasses leadership and accountability. The second structure is the Advisory group that offers consultation and support. The third structure is the tactical group that provides operational responsibility. What was underscored in Dr. Rosato's presentation is that with careful facilitation, partnerships can evolve and grow over time.

Building living evidence ecosystems
Dr. Li shared his experience in building a living evidence ecosystem for Type 2 diabetes medication. His work focused on adapting a massive and constantly growing evidence base to the specific needs of different guideline developers worldwide. He highlighted the importance of listening to partners’ requests, understanding their real needs, and applying strategies like subgroup analysis, medical informatics, and AI to sustain living evidence efforts.

Sustainability, equity, and power dynamics and transparency
Other discussion points that were raised during the session were concerned with sustainability, equity, power dynamics and transparency as it relates to living evidence partnerships. Governance structures of living evidence partnerships should help promote equity and inclusive participation. Additionally, the importance of ensuring open and visible processes for updating guidelines and making changes to protocols was highlighted.

The session encouraged participants to engage actively, reflect critically, and contribute openly, emphasising that living evidence partnerships succeed through collective, evolving learning.
